TORRANCE, CA --   Energy-efficient T8/bi-pin LED lighting tubes are the latest fluorescent-replacement LED lighting products LEDtronics announces adds to its green-technology lineup.

LEDtronics
® series LED48T8-288-001W bi-pin LED fits into standard G13 bases and is designed to directly replace conventional T8 fluorescent tubes that provide general lighting for commercial, residential and architectural lighting applications. The 48" long white tubes provide the equivalent light output of 24 to 32-watt fluorescent lamps while consuming less than a maximum of 19 watts. In addition, the LED48T8 tubes run on a wide voltage range of 100 to 290 volts AC.

When it comes to rated life, the LEDtronics series LED48T8 really shines.

50,000 hours and more!

While conventional fluorescent lamps typically have a rated life in the range 8,000 to 24,000 hours, the LED48T8 lamps boast an operating life of 50,000 hours and more -- 5.7 years of continuous light. Furthermore, since the LED lights produce so little wasted heat, the temperature inside the fixture does not build up as it does with conventional fluorescent tubes.

The sturdy construction of a UV-resistant polycarbonate housing over the LED tube provides increased protection (no glass to break) and shielding against many environmental effects, allowing them to be placed in locations where typical lights would be more vulnerable to the elements.

Hot and Cold Temperature Applications

LEDs perform well in temperatures from -35C° to +45C°, making them ideal for applications subject to frequent on-off cycling, such as garages and basements, while the aluminum back cover helps with better heat dissipation and a longer lifetime for the LEDs.

The LEDtronics LED48T8 lights deliver up to 1,342 lumens at a color temperature of 5000K (pure daylight white) and 1,072 lumens at a color temperature of 3000K (warm white), compared to the average 810 lumens for equivalent conventional fluorescent tubes. They provide a brightness of up to 429 maximum foot candela across a 114-degree beam pattern, with an impressive CRI of 80.

Other benefits of LEDs over fluorescents include: Quick and easy installation to minimize retrofit costs; no ballast and starter needed, thus no radio frequency to interfere with radio and television signals; instant, full-strength lightup; no buzzing or flickering; and directional distribution of light--good for interior task lighting.

Solid-state design renders LEDs impervious to shock, vibration, frequent switching and environmental extremes. Savings from reduced maintenance costs and downtime quickly return the capital investment expenditure, making them as friendly to the environment as they are to the operating budget. The positive environmental impacts of LED lights additionally come from the consistent, reduced power consumption, long service life, high-quality light, and cold temperature operation, with the corresponding reduction in greenhouse gases and the reduced waste from fewer replacements. Unlike conventional fluorescent bulbs, LED lights are not disposed of as hazardous waste at end of life.

The LEDtronics LED48T8 tubes comply with RoHS--the lead-free and mercury-free directive, as well as the CE safety assurance. They emit no infrared or ultraviolet radiation, and effectively reduce light pollution, being compatible with the international "dark skies" initiative.

The LED48T8-288-001W Premium 4-ft (1200mm) Tube Lights come in two colors: Warm White (SIW) and Pure Daylight White (TPW). Other viewing angles, tube lengths and a variety of LED colors are available for OEM customers. Large-quantity discounts are available for qualified distributors. Availability is stock to 6 weeks.

Will LED Lights Become Plastic Waste?

I appreciate many of the benefits of LED lights.  They ARE smaller.  They ARE less toxic.  They DO use less electricity.

But, they are also potential contributors to the plastic proliferation plaguing our world -- and our oceans.  Manufacturacturers can nip the potential problem in the bud by designing effective "take-back" programs from the beginning of the industry.    Here' why:

This is serious...because much of the world depends on ocean life for food. Because we depend on the plankton and phytoplankton to replenish our oxygen supply -- yes, even far inland!

And we are the ONLY people who can solve the problem. What solutions can you provide?

LED lights in Supermarket Refrigeration Gets Cheaper!

DOE found that LED lighting systems enable big energy savings in supermarket refrigeration and have been getting cheaper every year.

LED system prices dropped 9% in 2008 alone and DOE's Solid State Lighting Research and Development Program projects they will fall by 50% by 2012.

In preliminary analysis released in August 2008, DOE showed that, assuming a 50% decline in LED prices, the highest standards would make sense for all supermarket refrigeration systems and would save purchasers $5 billion in net savings over 30 years.

However, for the analysis underlying today's standard, DOE rejected its own LED price estimates, instead assuming that LED prices will stay at 2008 levels forever.

A new smokeless lighting technology that is set to replace pressure lamps used by Omena (sardines) fishermen in the 400 million-year old Lake Victoria is now available in Kenya.

Besides being handy for use, LED lighting technology is brighter than pressure lamps and is free from paraffin spillage that has dogged the lake for many years.

Unlike before when fishermen used over five pressure lamps to catch plenty of fish,  new technology now enables them to use only one source of lighting.

Supplied by Osram Energy Hub, a German based firm, the rechargeable lamps are expected to cut paraffin spillage into the lake by 100 percent once adopted by all fishermen.

The move is expected to protect the aquatic life of more than 500 endemic fish species. Other low power devices such as radios and mobile phones can also be connected this battery box and recharged.

The firm also has complete luminaries such as the Osram O- lamp 2 in 1 which comprises an energy saving lamp that has an integrated battery that is recharged or exchanged at the Hub as a separate unit.

The firm is collaborating with solarworld AG and the cell phone manufacturer Nokia and plans to cooperate with Siemens to provide water treatment systems after the pilot trial.

A North Carolina-based LED research company, LED Lighting Fixtures, announced that it had created the world's most energy-efficient LED light, one that uses 5.8 watts of electricity to create as much light as a 60-watt incandescent lightbulb. And following that news, LED Lighting Fixtures also announced that they are now part of Cree, Inc.

The company is developing a lamp that uses less energy than its current LED fixtures but emits the same amount of light. A federal study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology confirms that the product is the most efficient in the world. It uses 5.8 watts of power, compared with 60 watts for an equally bright incandescent bulb.

According to the National Institute report, the new fixture uses less than 9 percent of the energy consumed by common bulbs and less than 30 percent of that consumed by fluorescent lights. LLF's best existing product consumes 15 percent of the energy used by an incandescent bulb and 50 percent of that used by fluorescents.

Hunter said he hopes to debut the brighter and more efficient lamps by the end of 2008. The first buyers will likely be wholesale distributors, followed by consumers off store shelves by 2009.

LEDtronics Drop-in Replacement LED Bulbs for MR16

R30 LED Spotlight Lamps from LEDtronics

November, 2007 — LEDtronics introduces an addition to its line of drop-in replacement MR16-styled LED bulbs: High-powered 3Watt LED MR16 bulbs.

These new 3Watt MR16 LED bulbs have two big advantages over other MR16 LED bulbs.

First, they are engineered to handle the variations in voltages that may accompany “noisy” or “dirty” AC or DC power supplies, eliminating potential burnout from incoming voltage that is higher than the lamp’s capacity. Second, the new 3Watt MR16 bulbs eliminate the need to stock a variety of LED MR16 bulbs to coordinate with different voltages that power supplies of 12Volt AC/DC – 24Volt DC may present, simplifying procurement and inventory procedures.

High-powered 3Watt LED MR16 bulbs (Series Number MR16-3W) have the following characteristics; bi-pin bases just like standard incandescent MR16 bulbs, and light outputs of 102.9 lumens using only 2.6Watts with 12Volts DC, 120.6lumens using only 3.7Watts with 12Volts AC, and 140.7 lumens using only 3.8Watts with 24Volts DC. The bulb features three High-Power LEDs and is offered in Cool White (6500 Kelvin) and Warm White (3000 Kelvin) color temperatures. Both Warm and Cool Whites are offered in 61° beam angles (2 ½). With factory approval, MR16-3W bulbs may be ordered in other LED colors, voltages and beam angles.

MR16-3W bulbs carry a three-year limited warranty.

Unlike halogen MR16 lamps that create potentially damaging heat and have caused fires when accidentally in contact with other objects, LED-sourced MR16-3W bulbs generate less heat while operating and pose no threat to the objects they are illuminating or their surroundings.

Lighting professionals, architects, industrial designers and maintenance departments will find these MR16-3W lamps to be excellent solutions for their maintenance-free and low-voltage applications. MR16-3W lamps are commonly used for accent, task, and display lighting, track lighting in museums, jewelry stores, and hotels. They are excellent for both residential lighting situations and entertainment venues like theaters, restaurants, and theme parks.

With an average White LED lifespan of up to 50,000-hours (five years), LEDs operate reliably year after year. Solid-state design renders LEDs impervious to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration, frequent switching and environmental fluctuation. Integrated current-limited resistors prevent short-circuiting. LED lamps use only 10%-20% of the energy consumed by equivalent incandescent lamps. When combined with their maintenance-free operation this results in substantial cost savings.

Ledtronics, Inc. listens -- and many of the new ideas come from their customers. When faced with an "impossible" challenge from one of their customers, the Ledtronics team often finds a new product is created and a new market born in the bargain.

They are expanding markets for LED lighting in the following markets:
Aerospace, Architectural Lighting, Automation, Automotive, Aviation, Broadcasting, Datacomm/Telecomm, Electronic Instrumentation, Elevators, Entertainment, Gaming, Government Agencies, Industrial Automation, Medical, Military / Defense, Panel Indicators, Photo Development, Printed Circuit Boards, Security Sensors, Solar Power Products, Traffic and Safety, Transportation, Utilities and Video.

For example: Architecture / Interior Design

LEDs are emerging as a mainstream tool for architects, interior designers and lighting professionals with the vision to move beyond the limits of incandescent, fluorescent and neon.

LEDTronics pioneered the use of multi-LED arrays on conventional electrical bases. This innovation has opened up a vast spectrum of creative possibilities to any professional dealing with interior or environmental lighting. LED arrays are used as accent lighting in hard-to-reach places where frequent relamping is impractical. With a life span of 100,000 hours (that's more than 10 years), LEDs are far preferable to incandescents in such situations.

SolarLEDs™ provide energy-efficiency vastly greater than conventional lighting, and are ideal for any battery-driven application, or, any time minimal power consumption is required.

StripLights™ and PathLights™ provide directional lighting for steps, stairways and walkways.

Although LEDs can successfully replace incandescent and other forms of illumination in almost all cases, there are some considerations which must be taken into account. Unlike incandescent lamps, LEDs produce light in a single wavelength and a single direction. LEDTronics designs cluster arrays to increase the amount of illumination, or package them as bar graphs or with right angles.

Staples’ energy policy is rooted in its commitment to protect natural resources through sustainable business practices. This commitment covers four major areas:

  • Purchase and promotion of products containing post-consumer recycled materials,
  • Energy conservation and renewable-power procurement,
  • Recycling initiatives, and
  • Environmental education to build awareness among associates and consumers
Staples opened its first “green store” prototype in 2003, in East Wareham, Mass. It was built from the ground up to be as energy efficient as possible, starting with the materials used in its construction. Several of the lighting designs to save energy include:

  • T-8 single-lamp fixtures with dimmable ballasts (work in con-junction with skylights)
  • High-efficiency pulse-start parking-lot lights
  • LED signage
  • Back-room motion sensors
Energy planning is carefully integrated into Staples’ organizational model. The chain’s energy team, in place for many years, develops strategies for each component of energy management on an annual basis.

Staples joined EPA’s Green Power Partnership Program in 2002, with a commitment to purchase 2% of its total energy load from green or renewable power sources by the end of 2003. The chain made good on its promise and then some. Currently, renewable power accounts for 10% of the chain’s total annual
U.S. electricity consumption, making it the largest purchaser of green power in retail

Exit Signs

EPA will suspend the ENERGY STAR Exit Sign specification effective May 1, 2008. In EPAct 2005, Congress passed a new minimum federal efficiency standard for electrically-powered, single-faced exit signs with integral light sources that are equivalent to ENERGY STAR levels for input power demand. EPAct 2005 references the ENERGY STAR Version 2.0 specification. All exit signs manufactured on or after January 1, 2006 must have an input power demand of 5 watts or less per face.

If all U.S. companies switched to ENERGY STAR qualified exit signs, they would save $75 million in electricity costs.

Remember, saving energy prevents pollution.
There are more than 100 million exit signs in use throughout the U.S. Typically lit by incandescent bulbs, these signs consume 30-35 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) hours of energy each year.

Energy Star maintains a Manufacturers List of Energy Star Partners

A few of these 61 EXIT SIGN manufacturers listed for California locations  include:  Active Safety Corporation, American Permalight, Bright Path Lighting, DMF Lighting, EEMA Industries/Liton Lighting, Facdir, inc., Glow Zone, Nora Lighting, Orbit Industries, Pacific Lighting/Utopia Lighting, Sun & Stars Lighting, US Energy Technologies

Phantom LED Strip Lights for Retail Showcases

Hidden strip lights provide task lighting under counters, cabinets, accent shelves and even bookshelves. LED light strips generate only a small fraction of the heat of incandescent or Xenon lights. The radiant heat of each individual LED lamp is roughly equivalent to that of a 1 watt light bulb.

LED strip lights also provide an ideal source of retail showcase lighting that displays heat-sensitive items. Products such as makeup, textiles, foods, and produce, can quickly deteriorate when exposed to radiant heat and/or ultraviolet light.

Museum lighting of historical documents, antiques, and ancient artifacts. Jewelry stores prefer LED strip lights that provide high level of color temperature precision.

In addition to the primary colors of red, blue, and green, LED cabinet lights come in warm white and daylight. Two or more of these colors can be mixed together to achieve custom illumination that brings out the details of a fine cut diamond, or that highlights intricate patterns carved in precious metal jewelry.

LED strip lights come in a variety of trims. There are three mounting categories: Horizontal, Vertical, and Cove. All trims are custom made to fit your needs. We never take a stock fixture and modify it to fit your cabinet.

LED strip light bulbs are also installed in larger industrial spaces as energy savers and contributors to LEED green building certification.

In lighting installations where scaffolding or lifts must be used to replace bulbs in ceiling lighting systems in hard to reach areas or tall rooms, LED light lamps reduce costs by lengthening lamp replacement cycles -- and saving maintenance costs (as well as replacement bulb costs).

LED Exit Sign Lights for Energy Savings

LED Exit signs provide 24/7 light and very low electricity use that saves money and reduces maintenance of bulb replacement. The brilliant red illumination is also a safety benefit. Couple these benefits with lower battery load during power supply interruptions, and it just makes sense to convert your Exit signs to LED technology.

Many public utility companies also offer incentives and rebates for LED exit sign replacements. This is another savings that makes LED exit sign remodeling and upfitting a smart move.
