Despite a slumping economy, new store venue is seen as smart strategy by a lighting store in Fort Myers, FL.

The roughly $3 million building will offer a host of improvements over the current location, including a two-story atrium for grand chandelier displays, light lifts in the ceiling - a motorized apparatus that allows chandeliers to be lowered to eye level - and a customer service area separate from the showroom.

LED Signage Attracts Consumer Traffic

The exterior will be highlighted by a roughly 35-foot-tall electric sign with a 9-foot by 14-foot LED screen that can be used for advertisements and demonstrations.

In response to the downturn, the Bebbers have tightened their credit policies, reduced overhead through such things as cutting energy usage by using fluorescent display lighting and dramatically increased retail advertising. The additional advertising has meant a boost in retail trade over the past year, as has a moving sale that began in January.

Sector Marketing Strategy Shifts to Consumer Remodeling

"We felt a lot of people would keep their money and turn to remodeling and home improvements, so we started marketing to them to try and make up for the lack of the volume-builder business," Chuck Bebber said.

Today, retail customers represent about two-thirds of the store's business, a position commercial customers occupied before the advertising blitz.

XLamp® LED was selected as the light source for a new lantern from MUJI of Japan. Cree’s XLamp LEDs were selected for their market leading performance.

MUJI assigned the lantern project to G-Com Co., Ltd., a Japanese-based original equipment manufacturer. The sleek MUJI lanterns can be used as table lights or portable torches. G-Com’s product design required a bright light source that generates very little heat. The complete lantern design also had to create an aesthetically pleasing product for MUJI’s high-end customer base. Cree’s XLamp LEDs were the natural choice to fulfill the requirements.

“We first chose Cree XLamp XR-E LEDs for MUJI’s high-power bicycle lights, and then again for the new lanterns. It is important to provide the best products for major brands such as MUJI,” said Tohru Chigusa, G-COM vice president. “We found that Cree XLamp LEDs offer the best brightness and lowest heat emission for packaged LEDs, and Cree’s sales and support people added great value to the product design process.”

 PAR20 LED Lamps from LEDtronics

PAR20 LED Short-Neck light bulbs.

These direct incandescent replacement bulbs combine advanced Light Emitting Diode (LED) technologies, standard 25mm Edison screw bases and light-optimizing designs to produce vivid light.

PAR20 LED bulbs are available in three light emitting angles (15°, 20°, and 22°) and in 120 volts AC. Other voltages like 12V to 240V AC or DC are available for qualified customers.

PAR20 Short-Neck LED bulbs measure 3.50 inches long and have a 2.53 inch diameter making them ideal for small spotlighting tasks, artwork accenting, and recessed lighting for ambient illumination. With a power draw of only 2.5 Watts the savings quickly add up over the standard PAR20 incandescent bulbs they replace.

The standard PAR20 LED colors available are Warm White and XWarm White (3000 Kelvin), Cool White (7000 Kelvin), Super Red (633nm) and Aqua Green (525nm). Other LED colors as well as Infrared lamps are offered for qualified customers and quantities.

With up to eleven years of LED operating life and five sunlight-visible LED light colors from which to select, solid-state PAR20 LED bulbs are a practical and economical way for architects, retail store display creators, entertainment designers and other lighting professionals to integrate ornamental illumination into maintenance-intensive applications. Additionally, LED cluster lamps continue to provide light even if one or more emitters fail-unlike when the filament breaks inside incandescent bulbs. LEDtronics' PAR20 LED bulbs are designed to perform well in systems subjected to voltage dips or surges. Integrated current-limited resistors ensure that no circuit modifications are required.

Colored lenses or filters are not needed since LEDs emit colored light that is determined by the composition of the semiconductor material comprising the diode. Intensity and color remain stable over the lamp's lifetime.

LED technology is an energy-efficient directional light source; saving 80% - 90% of energy costs compared to a 30- or 50-Watt incandescent PAR20 lamps. Because LEDs use very little energy, produce little-to-no heat, and are virtually maintenance free the cost savings are substantial.

Solid-state design renders LEDs impervious to electrical and mechanical shock, vibration, frequent switching, and environmental extremes. With an average lifespan of up to 100,000-plus hours (11 years)-up to 50,000 hours for white LEDs-LED bulbs operate reliably year after year. PAR20 LED bulbs are the ideal solution for decorative task lighting and nighttime applications including tracklight fixtures, reading lights, and small ceiling cans. Other applications include large message panels, billboards, scoreboards, time-and-temperature signs, arcade machines, casino accent illumination, and lighting for stages, theaters, carnivals, theme parks and amusement parks. PAR20 LED bulbs can be used as individual pixels in large dot-matrix screens, digital time/temperature signs or full-color display screens.

R30 LED Spotlight Lamps from LEDtronics
Bespoke Lighting, who recently merged with LEDtronics, Inc., a Los Angeles, CA, based LED lighting company, combined their skills in developing a unique method of illuminating chandeliers using light emitting diodes (LEDs).

The project was undertaken at the request of The Royal Household, in an effort to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs. The center room chandelier was nominated and all 32 twenty-five watt tungsten lamps were removed, and a low voltage system controlling 2.8 watt light emitting diode lamps (STL610-48-XIW-024M) were installed initiating an energy saving in excess of 80%. The next re-lamping will not be needed to be scheduled until 2020.

The next chandelier to be converted will be fitted with a warmer version of LED lamps, perfectly recreating the color temperature of tungsten lamps. “ The aesthetics of the respective rooms is a major consideration and consequently we needed an option on the color of the lamps. Bespoke lighting and LEDtronics have succeeded in providing the perfect solution for The Royal Household .and their energy saving strategy has been greatly enhanced”, said Pervaiz Lodhie, president and founder of LEDtronics and co-owner of Bespoke Lighting International. “We are now perfecting an LED candle lamp for The Palace that will again assist them in their commitment to saving energy”.

LEDtronics  also recently worked jointly with Bespoke in illuminating the Grand Staircase in Buckingham Palace. They installed around 32,000 LED’s which included a combination of warm white combined with red, green and blue LED’s giving a range of several thousand color temperatures. The system is controlled remotely by radio transmitter.
